FNF Exorcist” ft. Miku (English)

If you’ve spent any time on Vocaloid corners of the internet lately, there’s a good chance “Exorcist” (also known by its Japanese title, アクマバライ / Akumabarai) has crossed your feed. Now it’s a playable Friday Night Funkin mod, letting you hit notes along to an English rendition of the track instead of just watching it play out.

Where the song comes from

The original “Exorcist” was produced by Something’s off with my Vocaloid, with accompanying art and video work from Ichimaru. The version featured in this mod isn’t the Japanese original, though — it uses the English cover and translated lyrics recorded by Tomoe Carmine, who put out her rendition on her own channel. So what’s the song even about?

The premise is deceptively simple: a girl named Ui has a crush on someone, and then Hatsune Miku shows up standing right next to him. Rather than confront the situation like a normal person, Ui turns to an AI chatbot for advice — and the bot’s solution is to suggest she perform an exorcism on her rival. That’s the whole story. It’s a bright, catchy pop song hiding a genuinely unhinged premise underneath, and that contrast between the cheerful delivery and the increasingly deranged plot is a big part of why the song took off in the first place.
